fix(core): Resolve TypeError in tokenization and enhance type inference

1477deb719a7e5ec89254e2fb5240e955c50c62b · ovidiucs · Oct 24, 2025 17:50

This commit addresses a `TypeError` introduced in a previous refactoring,
where the `tokenize()` function was updated to require a
`machine_tokens_set` argument, but not all call sites were updated.
Specifically, `infer_type_from_path()` in `extractors.py` was missing
this argument.

Additionally, this commit significantly enhances the type inference and
tokenization logic to improve classification accuracy, particularly for
densely packed or abbreviated filenames common in sample libraries.
This resolves many instances of files being incorrectly categorized as
"unknown".

The primary issues were:
1) `tokenize()` being called without `machine_tokens_set` in `extractors.py`.
2) Inability to correctly parse compact abbreviations like "BDCR7805".
3) Missing definitions for many common instrument types and machine names.

Key changes:

extractors.py:
- Fixed `TypeError`: Passed `MACHINE_TOKENS` to the `tokenize()` call
  within `infer_type_from_path()`.
- Added `from config import MACHINE_TOKENS` for direct access to the
  constant.

text_utils.py:
- Introduced `pre_tokenize_special_cases()` to intelligently split common
  compact prefixes (e.g., `BD`, `SD`, `CH`, `CY`) from the rest of a
  token before full tokenization. This allows for correct type extraction
  from names like `BDCR7805`.
- Updated `split_alpha_num()` to be aware of the `machine_tokens_set`
  and prevent splitting of known machine names (e.g., `CR78`, `MPC2000`)
  into numeric and alphabetic parts, thus preventing false BPM detections.

config.py:
- Expanded `TYPE_MAP` with over 30 new entries, including specific instrument
  types (e.g., `timps`, `syntom`, `pipeorgan`), loops (e.g., `bossa nova`,
  `waltz`, `march`), and generic terms like `texture`, `fx` (for various `Dr Sample`
  files).
- Further expanded `MACHINE_TOKENS` to include names like `wasp`, `jupiter`,
  `kawaii`, `dr sample`, `drs`, `mr10`, `2600`, `mpc1`, `mpc2000`, `mpc60`, `linn60`,
  which were frequently causing misidentification or incorrect splitting.
- Added new `PACK_DEFAULT_TYPE` entries for vendors like `kawaii` (vocal)
  and `dr sample` (fx) to provide better type hints for entire packs.

test_modules.py:
- Updated `test_tokenization()` calls to pass `MACHINE_TOKENS` to `tokenize()`.
- Added new test cases for `tokenize()` to cover compact abbreviations and
  machine token protection.
- Added new test cases to `test_type_inference()` to verify correct
  classification of examples like "Synth Tom" and "BDCR7805".

These changes ensure the application is functional and significantly
improves the accuracy of type and BPM detection, leading to far fewer
"unknown" categorizations.
